BOTANICALS STATEMENT
My interest in botanical arts grew rapidly when taking courses at the Chicago Botanic Garden. The beauty, strength, and resiliency of the subject matter are qualities important to each of us, and capturing those qualities in artwork is the challenge for me. These works explore the interplay of softness and strength. Depth of color, light, texture, and subject work together to create and emphasize both the softness and the strength of the botanicals.
I like working with both graphite and colored pencils, and I also use three different surfaces: cotton paper, cotton rag, and film.
